Introduction

I'm so excited to go and help empower others in this amazing country--Thank you to all of you donors that are making this possible.

I will most likely be a project lead in El Salvador with the idea to implement square-foot gardening projects in the homes of families in rural areas. Square-foot gardening is a specific way to garden by dividing a plot of land into square-feet, each square with its own crop. This is useful because it saves land, promotes greater crop diversity, and requires less time to take care of. Many Salvadorans in these areas have a diet that consists of rice and beans only. My goal is to figure out why some square-foot gardening projects in the past haven't worked, conduct a needs analysis with these wonderful people to determine their needs, and see if we can implement them in the home. In addition, I plan on teaching basic nutrition and hygiene that are practical health applications to the gardens they will create. Stay tuned for more!

  1. Travis- I'm interested to see what your needs analysis shows. I know that some of the square foot projects have struggled in the past. It seems like such a good idea, so I'm excited to see what you find out. Keep up the hard work and we are thinking/praying for you. - Jacob
